This bespoke piece was originally commissioned to accompany the newly refurbished De Morgan gallery at National Trust Wightwick Manor.
The Love seat; also known as a Tête-à-Tête (face to face) chair; was popularised in the Victorian era. Would-be suitors would converse quietly over the S-shaped arm whilst remaining entirely overlooked in the centre of the room, to ensure all standards are properly maintained!
The seat is made from elm which is the best choice owing to it's interlocking grain, making it extremely strong and difficult to split. The arm, legs, sticks and stretchers are ash which offers strength and a pleasing tonal contrast.
All of the joints are held with traditional wedged mortise and tenon, holding the chair's integral structure together firmly and under tension.
1300 wide x 450 deep x 800mm high.
